I didn't sleep well that night - not because I was cold or uncomfortable, but because of the train of thoughts in my head. I woke up just as it was getting light and began to think intensely. I concentrated very hard on not forgetting anything, until I finally decided to get up, organize everything, and write it down:
* Today will be the seventh day since I left my guides. They estimated they'd return on the tenth, but I need to be prepared for their presence beforehand - I need to prepare my "observations." The letters I saw from Silvana also included correspondence with biologists - perhaps Silvana would let me borrow some of her "observations" so I'd have something to talk about with the natives?
* I've decided to help Silvana regain contact with the outside world. I'll offer to go to her intermediary upon my return and find out what happened.
* I'd like to delve deeper into her parents' correspondence.
* Exactly, "parents." Something doesn't sit right with this story – who is Silvana talking about when she mentions her parents? Was it Willem and Sidone? Weren't they siblings? Was there someone else here? I've looked through my notes from the previous days, but I can't be certain of anything at this point; it's possible some of this will turn out to be a misunderstanding or a false assumption on my part.
After writing these things down, my mind seems to be slowly starting to let go, and I'm slowly getting sleepy.
At this point, a series of notes appear - more or less chaotic, but which allow these species to be later described as new. Apparently, Silvana allowed the letters to be used to orchestrate this little plot. With each observation, the author provides the names of the individuals from whose correspondence this information was extracted.
I will not reproduce them here for two reasons: first, I would like to respect Sidone's (I assume) decision to remain anonymous. Second, I have found species matching these descriptions in contemporary sources, and they confirm, to some extent, the authenticity of the events described - of course, all this could be credibly fabricated, but why would anyone? Today this would be rather easy, but, say, half a century ago it would have required some work. Moreover, the animals and plants described were first described by only two authors - with a clear boundary between flora and fauna. This casts doubt on their full authorship... Again, I can attribute the decisions of Sidone and these authors to this "small fraud." Maybe this is something that will allow me to learn more about all this and try to verify the reality of these descriptions more deeply.
